Phillip Island with the Tino.

Did our usual Woolami run.

As usual the waves were crappy and the water freezing. Memorable moment was taking a detour from our usual beach,

rocks,
walking track. We climbed up what looked like a good grassy section we ended up getting stuck ankle deep in mud that smelled like bird poo.

Then to get to the old quarry we had to battle through a fog of flies. The quarry was crappy valentin invented a story to make it less so hopefully he'll place it in the comments. Hopefully he'll email some photos soon also.

Thanks Gez and Rishika for hosting another fantastic event. Next one will be in King street. Onya everyone for coming through with what was promised on the Wiki menu . Everything was absolutely delicious with the exception of davo's la bouche. To be fair Davo could not foresee his dessert would be the innocent victim of a devious gravox fueled punkd directed at me. Heads up Megan and Harnie revenge will be salty!

check out Ed's KK code thanks Gez for hosting it.

Onya gez for saving the day when we bought the tickets see 8/8/2005 and keeping them safe till we needed them.
Securty was unusually intense. Along with the standard bag checks all drinks brought in had to be poured into cups, and everyone was patted down. Afro-headed terrorist-looking people got an extra thorough search.

Thanks to Jase and Val for driving everyone.
Started out fit and raring to go.
Walked to little
Oberon
bay and along the beach to
Oberon bay. We set up camp in the shadow of Mt.Doom leaving our heavy backpacks and injured comrades. We set off at brisk pace to the east coast. After the first snake sighting our orignal formation seemed to change.
Made it to waterloo bay in record time. On the hike back got a bar of gsm coverage at the top of the hill called chef tino to get dinner started. And what a gastronomic delight it was! Who says chum (so chumpy you can carve it) is pet food only. Topped off with some sparkling spring water. Spent the evening mucking around on the beach and doing that slow shutter thing with our cameras. The hike back the next morning was more about getting the injured over the mountans and creeks.

Canadians, an observation deck and a strange sport

Thanks Andy for organising the highest grad drinks ever. As much as I love to take a good panorama none of my shots came out so I googled "rialto observation deck panorama" the first hit was on the money, every1 should check out big bens: panorama. He also seems to share my philosophy to hiking, pretty cool site.
After this took the Canadians to international rules at the dome. I was as confused as the Canadians even though I am familiar with Aussie rules and have heard of Gaelic footy.

Snowboarding with Skiiers Falls creek

Early start not quite stupid-o'clock but dumb enough.
Jason almost unconscious in morning.
Fully loaded and roof racked territory 7 boys, 5 boards 2 skis + snacks.
Big-fat rain at car park.
Stinging rain on chair lift.
The soft marshmallow like snow of the day before turned into a hard icy material resembling concrete. The first bum fall of the day knocked the wind out of me.
Visibility around arm length.(Gerard make sure you put your stack in the comments)
Valentin knocked me over tempin bowling style.
Took some revenge disembarking chairlift.
Went up summit chairlift, would later find out it was expert only.
Sign pointed to an intermediate run off a cliff into fog.
At end of the day got lost and followed a narrow strip of snow with rivers on either side.
Ayresie and I carried the shoeless big-fella from the hire shop to the territory.
With all the money we saved on fuel we decided to test out the territory and donate to the local highway patrol. Spent the drive home thinking of cool things we should have said to the cop but didn't.

Snowboarding Falls Creek

Shahan's Territory

stopping over at Ford in broadie
Discovered Val is goofy(left foot fwd) at the hire-shop (you test this by pushing the person and seeing which foot they stick out to catch themselves, tested val for next half hour)
Scary eddie
Yeti terrorizing alpine roads.

Snow boarding rude awakening even Val the most stable person on his feet unstable on snow.

Ed with head start showed us how to do it.

Ayresie the fearless stunt maniac picked it up in record time.
Good weather soft snow.

After a great day get to the motel, everyone completely knackered.
Almost no energy for dinner and showers.
Late night visitors.

Young Endeavour Day 3: Alongside Townsville

Started at Midnight-the guts watch. Relieving from the previous watch involved describing the course and best rudder angle to maintain it. A port and starboard lookout were assigned and given binoculars. Then the boat was in our hands, it was pretty exciting to cruise along at night time. The bow of the ship really flies up and down but since your stable relative to it looks as if the stars are all moving up and down really cool. When a boat approaches from the horizon it looks like a flare. Marty was a fantastic port lookout. He managed to see a shooting star every 10 minutes. I saw one. We tidied up ropes and did rounds. This involved taking weather measurements air pressure, temperatures(including of the water a balmy 20° at night in the middle of the ocean). I remember when I was lookout looking really hard looking for the bright light of a marine life jacket (which we were taught about the previous day by Mrs. EPIRB).
We woke up the next watch and hit the hay ourselves. Its amazing how easy it was to sleep and wake up on command can never do that at home.

The highlight of this day would have to have been when we were given permission to swim. We pulled up in the middle of the ocean on a beautiful calm day and then everyone proceeded to jump off the bow sprit. We all felt safe since Dion activated the steyr shark deterrent.

Young Endeavour Day2 :At sea somewhere between Cairns and Townsville

Started today at 3AM as red watch had morning watch (it has since been known as “stupid o’clock” © Juzzy). Got to climb to the topgallant yard. The girls sat on the port side of the topgallant yard like it was some gentle pony, on the starboard side the guys (myself included) looked like that kitten clinging to the clothesline in that poster with the catchphrase “hang in there”.

We learned some knots and stuff then the serious business began – coming up with an annoying wakeup call. We watched the sunrise over Cairns harbour.

Then it was show time it began with Marty saying in perfect tone “This is big brother, all the crewmates to the top deck”, this was followed by some rooster crows coinciding with the rest of the crewmates flicking lights on and off and blowing whistles directly in the cabins (for that personal touch).

Being the watch on deck while at harbour it was our duty to lead the flag rasing ceremony. With the Townsville naval base complete with patrol boat and submarine nearby it was serious matter indeed. It began with whistles, then I donged the bell 4 by 2 times the flag was raised and the anthem sung to the tune of Barnsies “Working class man”.

We set sail (so to speak) red watches job being to carry fenders (big rubber sausages) alongside to prevent the ship from crashing into the pier. We would later be told it was purely to protect the young endeavours paintjob.

It was so exciting to be at sea watching islands go by the coast was non stop lush tropical mountains. Some people could not even contain their excitement, shooting it out of their mouths off the leeward beam (or was it Bec’s lunch).

Red watch would have the guts watch that night (midnight to 0400) so we made it an early one. Although a strange sensation to fall asleep while rocking from side to side and up and down it was kinda cool.
